Since about 2019 I have maintained some version of a self-practice fairly regularly, maybe 15 minutes in the morning, a quick catcow and a downward dog but my practice never really deepened or progressed, I didn’t know how to do this or have the time…..I thought!!

My journey with yoga really started in 2014, a moment during which i was planning a pregnancy (it was taking a while). During my first pregnancy I had an informal self-practice every morning to alleviate lower back pain which really helped, it also helped alleviate my anxiety relating to childbirth. Once my little human was born, I did treasure those moments when I would escape to a yoga class in the Elbowrooms in Stoneybatter, the latter a place I had lived during college and even today it still feels like home.

I had been thinking about yoga teacher training for a few years mostly to deepen my own practice without having to do yoga in a yoga class setting. The more yoga I practiced at home the more my yoga practice developed into something deeply personal. Eventually going to a studio wasn’t something I felt totally comfortable with and I guess COVID didn’t help with that right?

The outcome of all the musing was that I signed up for Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training in 2023 and I completed my 200-hour YTT with The Elbowrooms this spring 2024. It was an amazing journey; I wasn’t expecting it to have such a profound influence on my own yoga practice and my overall outlook on life but that’s what happened.

For me yoga, whether it’s on your bedroom floor, in the dark, while your kids are asleep, or in a studio with 17 strangers; yoga is a journey and an immense gift to me. It has improved my well-being, physical strength and made me feel more like my authentic self.
